overhauled technic! 1 of 50 black painted SM!
Maserati series, Sa Majeste or Sado Maso? The birth of the Citroen SM dates back to 1970. But years earlier, Citroen had already started to think about a front-wheel drive car that would break the 180 km/h barrier. The French company therefore decided to build its own sporty car based on the DS with the project designation ‘S’.
The peculiarities of the Citroën SM began with its categorisation as a vehicle type. Due to its two doors, it was not a saloon, but also not a sports car due to its high weight. Citroën's explanation in the press release at the time: ‘Rather, it already combines the wishes of its future drivers, which were previously an unattainable dream of many car connoisseurs: Safety, comfort and driving performance.’
Only 50 vehicles from the 1970 model year were ordered in black noir. One of these black models went to the owner of a clothing factory in France. After his death, the owner's son sold the vehicle to Mr B. from Oberhoffen in 1999. He only drove the vehicle for a few weeks during his 15 years of ownership and then wanted to have some repairs carried out by an engine builder. He bought a second SM to donate parts. However, the planned engine swap never materialised and so both SMs were sold to a gentleman in Germany in 2014. Mr H. from Germany now had the engine in the black SM replaced at a speedometer reading of approx. 12,000 km. The replacement engine is one of the latest series and already has hydraulic chain tensioners from Marek and was fitted with new valves, chains and seals shortly afterwards. In 2017, the current owner took over the vehicle and had a very detailed expert report drawn up, among other things. To this day, this SM remains in its original, unwelded condition. The vehicle was repainted once in top quality and the interior was partially renewed. A vehicle that will never be seen again.
