It was supposed to be a racer. The Corrado, premium sports coupé from Volkswagen, which was built at the same time as the Scirocco. Now it is 34 years ago that the car with the legendary G-loader came onto the market. Even back then, an extra button in the cockpit was a source of enthusiasm: the one for the rear spoiler. It extends automatically from 120 mph and retracts at 200 mph. From the market launch, the G-Lader was a special technical feature. With it, the G60 achieved 160 hp from 1.8 liters of displacement. In the VW Corrado, the technology and drive system of the Golf III worked in the body of a compact sports car, produced by Karmann in Osnabrück. Slightly squat but dynamic, the compact sports car created by chief designer Herbert Schäfer went on the hunt for customers at the end of the 1980s. Of course, this Corrado did not remain at the technical level of the 80s, but received new brakes all around, new shock absorbers, new springs, all bearings were renewed and all seals were replaced. A new timing belt and a new water pump complete the package.
The VW Corrado is an upcoming classic that has yet to rocket upward in price. Those who strike now will enjoy timeless coupe design with high-volume technology from the Golf 3. A downsizing pioneer in the G60 version.
