restored condition!
September 1957 saw the second major modernisation of the Beetle models. The windscreen was enlarged, but the rear window in particular was made much larger. The dashboard and the door panelling were also renewed. In 1958, progress brought larger exterior mirrors, the following year new door handles and a stabiliser on the front axle. In terms of the engine, everything remained the same, i.e. the 30 hp engine that had now proven itself a million times over. It was not until 1961 that further changes were made and the new 34 hp engine was introduced.
This Beetle, ordered in black, was registered for the first time in Lisbon on 23 June 1960. It is therefore an export Beetle. According to the original registration certificates we have from the first owner from 1960 and 1985, the registration number was OP-53-54. It was not until 2014 that a different registration number appears on a document for a technical inspection in Santa Tirso near Porto. The Beetle was then sold to Germany and spent a long time in a large Volkswagen Beetle collection. The vehicle was not moved properly for many years and has now been lovingly restored.
